The Joy Releases New Single "Bayang’khethela" From Their Self-Titled Debut Album

The Joy Releases New Single

Following their appearance at this year's Coachella Festival, where they opened for Doja Cat on both weekends, the South African vocal group The Joy have today shared 'Bayang'khethela,' the latest single from their upcoming self-titled debut album, set to be released on Transgressive Records on Friday, June 21, 2024.

Following their appearance at Coachella, Doja Cat released all three tracks featuring The Joy on DSPs on Friday of last week.

These tracks were included in Scarlet 2 CLAUDE, an extensive digital album. Additionally, the band contributed lead vocals to the recent singles "ACKNOWLEDGE ME," "DISRESPECTFUL," and "Shutcho," all of which were re-imagined to include lyrics in Zulu. The band also collaborated with the American rapper on these songs.

The song "Bayang'khethela" is accompanied with a performance video that was captured by Up The Game, the same creative team that was responsible for Liam Gallagher: Knebworth 22 and Tonight with Arlo Parks.

The video was shot during the live recording of the album, which took place in the famed Church Studios in Crouch End, London.

In reference to the term "Bayang'khethela" The Joy explains that the meaning of the song originates from a culture and upbringing in which parents decide who their children should marry.

The term "Bayang'khethela" originates from the opposite concept that no one has the power to decide your spouse or the person you should be in love with.
