Artists are increasingly being targeted in South Africa. The nation has lost a number of its most valuable citizens to gun violence in the last several years.

Popular DJ and MC Peter Mashata Mabuse was murdered and died a few hours ago in Soshanguve Block G just after he finished his final set after midnight. A-list producers and deejays graced several of the performances hosted by the well-known Gauteng deejay, who was also one of the province's largest event organizers.

After being shot allegedly close to Tshwane University of Technology in Soshanguve, DJ Peter Mashata was pronounced dead a few hours later.
